Australia is facing its most serious bee crisis. Varroa mite is here, and without managed hives on farms, pollination collapses. Your $2,200 puts a full colony with smart monitoring on a partner property in Australia.

Why a hive

Somewhere in Australia,
a colony needs a home.

The farms that feed us depend on pollination, and managed hives are what our farmers will now rely on to help keep food on Australian tables.

Varroa mite has arrived in Australia, and over time many feral bee colonies will disappear. Most farmers are not expecting the additional costs this will eventually create across food production and pollination services. Costs that can ultimately be passed on to consumers.

Every hive you sponsor supports food security, strengthens Australia’s bee population, and provides real support to farmers who are already doing it tough.

Your sponsorship places a hive on a real rural property, cared for by a real beekeeper. Every month, you receive an update from the field. What the bees are foraging on, how the colony is tracking, what the season looks like on the ground. This is not a receipt and a thank you email. This is something you experience, season after season.

Beekeeper managing hives on a farm

As a gift

The hardest person to buy for just got easier.

Everyone has that person. The one who already has everything. The one who says, “I don’t need anything.” We are fairly certain nobody has ever given them 60,000 bees.

They receive a personalised certificate with their name and hive number. Then, every month, their beekeeper sends updates from the field. Photos from the property, seasonal changes, what the bees are foraging on, and the gradual realisation that this might be the most unexpected gift they have ever received.

Perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or simply because you want to see the look on their face.

For your business

Put your business behind
something your customers
can actually verify.

Hang the certificate in your shop, office, or waiting room. When someone asks about it, you can tell them where the hive is located, who looks after it, and what the bees are doing this month. That is not a logo on a lanyard. That is a real conversation starter.

No ongoing costs. No subscriptions. One payment gives your business something genuine to stand behind and talk about.

Looking for something bigger? Branded honey, farm visits, employee engagement, and ESG reporting - check out our corporate partnerships.

Full transparency

What you are funding

Your contribution supports the entire hive from the ground up. The bee colony itself, the hive boxes, frames, and equipment, land preparation on the partner property, beekeeper placement, ongoing management, and regular health inspections to keep the colony healthy and strong.

It also helps fund our Beyond the Hive initiative, focused on native bee conservation, habitat restoration, and chemical free forage plantings across rural Australia. And it covers the monthly updates you receive for the life of the hive, written by the beekeeper who actually cares for your colony on the ground.

No middlemen. No admin bloat. No marketing costs taken from your contribution. Every dollar goes toward bees, land, and the people protecting them.

Common questions

Is this a one-off payment or a subscription?
One-off. You pay $2,200 once and your hive is established with smart monitoring and maintained for its working life. There are no ongoing fees or renewals, but you receive a lifetime of updates from your beekeeper.
Do I get to visit my hive?
No. Biosecurity is critical to bee health and we cannot allow general visits to hive sites. Introducing outside contaminants puts the bees and surrounding colonies at risk. Our corporate partners can arrange a strictly controlled visit to a single designated site under biosecurity protocols to help prevent the spread of disease between properties. Fund a Hive supporters receive regular updates and photos from their beekeeper so you can follow your hive without needing to be there in person.
Can I fund a hive as a gift?
Yes. Tick "This is a gift" before checkout and enter the recipient's name, email, and an optional message. The certificate is personalised to the recipient and monthly hive updates go directly to them. You can also choose a delivery date to time it for a birthday or special occasion.
Can a business fund a hive?
Absolutely. Any business can fund a hive and receive a certificate to display in their shop, office, or on their website. If your business is interested in a larger partnership with branded honey, content, farm visits, and ESG reporting, check out our corporate partnerships.
How often will I hear about my hive?
Monthly, for the life of the hive. Every month you receive an update from your beekeeper with photos and notes from the field. What is happening with your hive, what the bees are foraging on, health checks, and any milestones worth celebrating.
Where are the hives located?
All hives are on partner properties across Australia. For the privacy and security of our landowners and beekeepers, we do not disclose specific site locations. Your certificate will include your hive number and the beekeeper managing it.
Is my payment tax-deductible?
1000 Hives is a social enterprise, not a registered charity. Your payment funds a real bee colony on a real property, but it is not tax-deductible as a charitable donation. For businesses, it may be deductible as a marketing or sustainability expense. Check with your accountant.
What happens if my hive does not survive?
Beekeeping is real and sometimes colonies fail despite best efforts. If your colony does not survive, we will let you know what happened and restock it at no additional cost. Your funding covers the ongoing management of the site, not just a single colony.

Ready to fund a hive?

One payment. One hive. A personalised certificate, monthly updates from your beekeeper for the life of the hive, and the knowledge that your bees are out there right now doing their thing.
