What you'll be doing
As a 1000 Hives beekeeper, you will be responsible for managing hives placed on partner farms in your region. This is hands-on, practical beekeeping, not office work. You will work 3 to 4 days per week, up to 38 hours. You tell us what days suit you.
Hive inspections
Weekly inspections of assigned hives across multiple farm sites. Checking brood health, queen status, stores, and pest levels. Recording findings on our app.
Colony management
Splitting strong colonies, requeening when needed, managing swarm prevention, feeding during dearth periods, and treating for varroa and other pests.
Seasonal operations
Adding and pulling supers during honey flow. Preparing hives for seasonal management including overwintering from May to August.
Farm partner liaison
You'll be the face of 1000 Hives on each property. Building relationships with landowners, answering their questions, and keeping them informed about their hives.
Equipment care
Maintaining hive equipment, frames, and tools. Flagging repairs or replacements. Keeping your vehicle kit clean, organised, and ready to go.
Record keeping
Logging inspections, treatments, and harvest data using our app. Accurate records are essential for PIRSA compliance and hive sponsorship reporting.
Honest Pay for Real Work
We pay above industry award rates as a casual position with loading. Same rate every day, weekdays and weekends. During the active season (September to April) you will work 3 to 4 days per week, up to 38 hours. All equipment and protective gear provided. You will use your own vehicle between farm sites and we pay per kilometre on top of your hourly rate.

Who we're looking for
We need people who already know bees. This isn't an entry level role. We're looking for experienced beekeepers who can work independently across multiple farm sites.
Experienced beekeepers
You've managed colonies commercially or kept bees seriously for several years. You know what a healthy brood pattern looks like and can spot queen issues early.
Independent workers
You're comfortable working alone on rural properties. You can plan your own route, manage your time, and solve problems in the field without hand-holding.
Local to your region
You live near the farm sites in your area. Sites are spread across each region and you will need to travel between them throughout the week.
Own vehicle and licence
You'll travel between farm sites in your own vehicle. We pay 88 cents per kilometre on top of your hourly rate.
